Deshpande Industries, a Belagavi-based enterprise engaged in diesel generator sets and engineering solutions, is celebrating its golden jubilee this year, marking five decades of operations and expansion across Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra.

Founded by the late Devraj Deshpande and Kusum Deshpande, the enterprise began as a mixer-manufacturing unit. It subsequently diversified into the power-generation sector, steadily building its presence in the manufacture, sale and servicing of diesel generator sets.

A significant phase in its growth began in 1987, when Bharat Deshpande initiated the assembly of generator sets. Under his leadership, and with the involvement of Medha Deshpande, the company became an Original Equipment Manufacturer for Kirloskar Oil Engines and Kirloskar Electric Company.

Despite operating from Belagavi, away from the major industrial centres, the enterprise expanded its customer network to Bengaluru and several business hubs in Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra.

The company entered into an association with Mahindra in 2009 and secured a dealership from Greaves Cotton Limited in 2021 for the sale, service and supply of spare parts for diesel generator sets. These partnerships helped it widen its product portfolio and strengthen its service operations.

The third generation joined the enterprise in 2010, when Shriya Deshpande, a graduate in Electronics and Communication Engineering with a master’s degree in Embedded System Designing, took charge of marketing and strategic initiatives. The company said her involvement helped it strengthen its market reach and earn recognition from its industry partners.

As part of its diversification, the family also established Shriya Deshpande’s Celebration Convention Hall and Lawn at Udyambag, catering to weddings, private ceremonies and corporate programmes.

Coinciding with the golden jubilee, Deshpande Industries has opened a new office and factory building at Udyambag. The expanded facility is expected to support its manufacturing, marketing and service activities.

The company presently employs 40 people. Its after-sales division includes 20 trained personnel who undertake the maintenance and servicing of diesel generator sets of different makes. Several members of its core team have been associated with the enterprise for more than three decades.

According to the management, the company serves over 20,000 customers, including government institutions, corporate establishments, private enterprises and retail buyers across the three States.

Reflecting on the milestone, the management attributed the company’s growth to long-standing customer relationships, an experienced workforce and adherence to transparent business practices.

“Many customers and their families have remained associated with us across generations. Their confidence has enabled us to complete this 50-year journey,” the management said, expressing gratitude to employees, business partners and customers.

With the new manufacturing facility and an expanded service network, Deshpande Industries is now looking to consolidate its presence in the regional power and engineering market while carrying forward the legacy established by its founders.
